Self-Clinching Nuts

Clinching nuts, also called self-clinching nuts or press fit nuts, are designed to be permanently mounted to metal framework, reducing costs and assembly time by eliminating the necessity for loose hardware and additional installation processes.

No matter what style of self clinching nut you need, Monroe-JHP Fasteners has you covered. Contact us or request a quote today to place your next order.

Self-Clinching Nut Product Options

Monroe JHP offers a wide variety of clinch nut product options. Our Flush Head self clinching nuts, commonly called “F” or “CFL” style self-clinching nuts, are great for tensile steel and aluminum panel installation. Stainless steel self clinching nuts are designed for permanent fixtures and are available in various sizes and alloys to meet your application requirements. Our clinch nut options include:

Self-Clinching Nuts Equivalent to PEM® Nuts

Monroe-JHP Fasteners supplies self clinching nuts, an equivalent (in fit and function) to PEM® Nuts, in various sizes and styles. Aluminum, steel, and stainless steel varieties are available to meet the specific needs of your application. Inch or metric threads are available.

How Do Self-Clinching Nuts Work?

A self clinching nut, also referred to as a press fit nut, a press in nut, or a clinch nut, is designed to become a permanent fixture of the part, component, or device onto which it’s installed. Installation is usually performed during the initial fabrication stage or in final assembly of the metal chassis. Parallel squeezing force is applied to secure the nut to the sheet metal panel.

What is the Clinch Nut Installation Process?

When installing a self-clinching nut, specific tolerances must be adhered to. The most important factors to consider when installing self clinch nuts are the sheet metal framework's ductility, thickness, and hardness.

A cold flow process between the chassis material and the fastener material causes the chassis metal to wrap around the clinch profile of the nut, securing it and locking the fastener in place. Using a material that is too thin or hard will prevent the self-clinching process from working correctly.

How to Select the Right Self Clinch Nut for Your Application?

As a leading fastener supplier, OneMonroe-JHP Fasteners offers various sizes, strengths, and types of press fit nuts. Choosing the right one for your needs depends on several factors: the application in which the self-clinching nut will be used, the panel material to which it will be attached, and the components that will be attached to the fastener. Our expert team can help you select the self-clinching nut that will work best for your application.

Self Clinching Nuts vs. PEM® Nuts*

Since 1987, OneMonroe-JHP Fasteners has been selling Captive Fastener’s press in nuts and other self-clinching hardware. In those 25-plus years, we’ve found that Captive’s products are as good as or better than the similar but more well-known PEM® nuts.
When comparing dimensions, geometry, and durability, Captive Fastener’s self-clinching nuts are an ideal alternative to PEM® nuts. Make Captive Fasteners your new fastener solution, and you’ll quickly discover why we’ve chosen them as the sole supplier of our press fit nuts.
